Persian Minimal Music

Mind-heal

Mind-Heal, hosted at Local Edition, was a captivating concert by CozyMinimal that brought together the meditative beauty of minimal music with the timeless richness of Persian traditional melodies. This unique fusion offered the audience a serene, immersive experience that resonated deeply.

Minimal music, born in the 1960s and popularized by composers like La Monte Young, Terry Riley, and Steve Reich, is known for its steady rhythms, repetitive phrases, and gradual evolution. CozyMinimal skillfully intertwined this Western genre with Persian musical traditions, where repetition has long been a central theme, notably in Khayyam Khani, inspired by the rhythmic poetry of Khayyam.

The ensemble featured Shervin Mirzeinali on piano and electronics, Ehsan Kachooei on setar, Ali Yarmohammadi on tar, and Arman Gouniaei on tombak. Together, they created a mesmerizing soundscape that invited the audience to slow down, listen deeply, and enter a reflective, almost meditative state.

The delicate interplay of traditional Persian instruments with electronic and piano elements showcased a seamless blend of past and present, offering a fresh take on both minimalism and Persian music. Each repetition, each evolving phrase, drew listeners further into a tranquil, transformative musical journey.

For those who attended, Mind-Heal was more than a concert—it was a soothing, mindful escape from the rush of daily life. Events like these highlight Local Edition’s dedication to presenting innovative performances that connect diverse musical worlds and foster a deeper appreciation for cultural fusion.
